Framework: Retrospective

Best for: Reflection and retrospectives with your team or by yourself

When to use it: At quaterly reviews or check-in

Purpose: To provide a time and space to reflect on your work or a project and capture what you've learnt, and what you're going to apply to improve things as a team.

How to:

We don’t know about you, but for us it feels that 2023 is running away like it’s got somewhere to be. As we hit the 6 month mark of the year and lots of teams come together to connect and reflect, we started flicking through our favourite retrospective frameworks to help ensure you can use your time together to review, plan and celebrate. And we landed on these 6 powerful questions below ⬇️

These questions are especially grounding to use with your team when you haven’t been, or won’t be together (virtually or IRL) in a while due to holidays. When we feel out of the loop, we can be less collaborative and more likely to work in silos, but coming together around questions like these helps to restore the all important connective tissue that is the foundation of high-performing teams.

Ask yourself and your team the following questions 💭

➕ What do you want to be celebrating in 3, 6, 9 and 12 months time?
➕ What opportunities are available to you that will move you forward?
➕ Where are your strengths and weaknesses in light of these ambitions?
➕ What threats do you need to be aware of and overcome?
➕ How will your team need to evolve to support you? Where are you skill gaps?
➕ What have you learned so far? What wins will you recreate?

💡 Top tips

  • Set some ground rules at the beginning to establish a safe and trusting environment.

  • Encourage the team to be open and honest.

  • Ask members to use emojis to react or emphasise different topics raised.

  • Ensure actions are assigned to individuals to take away to address changes needed.
